What to Expect at Devil’s Throat

Cozumel water is know for it’s exceptional clarity and you can expect up to 100 feet (30 meters) of visibility. The water temperature ranges from 78F in the winter months to 86F in the summer months and the thermocline will be very minimal.

The dive begins by descending into the deep blue waters. As you descend keep an eye out for some of the larger mariine life such as Caribbean Reef Sharks, Turtles, Eagle Rays and Southern Stingrays. We will descend to a sandy bottom at approximately 85 feet (25 meters) and from here you can adjust your buoyancy before entering the caverns.

Descending into the Deep Blue Water at Devil’s Throat

Divers will enter the first tunnel single file behind the guide, the passages are quite narrow and get darker as you enter. A dive torch is suggested for diving through the caverns, however there is plenty of light peeking through several points. By using a dive light you can truly experience the colors of the sponges, fans and marine life inside the caverns. As we approach the end of the first swim-through there will be a steep drop referred to as “The Throat” from here you will exit into the most beautiful blue water. Expect the depth to be 120 feet (40 meters) so take it all in as your no-decompression limit time will be short before we ascend into the next swim through. There are multiple passage ways into the towering coral reefs as we ascend to the top and begin the safety stop.
